About The Renegades

The Renegades Youth Club (10-18) was set up in 2019 by two dads, former Scout leaders with a passionate determination to give local, rural children something fun and exciting to do outside school hours.  Rascals (7-10) is an experiment running up to Christmas 2023 to assess interest.

Since its creation in the West Sussex villages of Loxwood and Wisborough Green, the Renegades has grown in numbers and, thanks to the generosity of local people and of grant givers, despite going from a standing start we now have a wide range of activity equipment to fulfil the promise. We can now offer canoeing, camping, archery, carpentry, art and cooking, with our sights now set on a club minibus or buses. Watch this space!

Our vision is to help local young people enjoy the best possible childhood and so grow as fully rounded individuals.

Our mission is to deliver the most creative, inspirational, educational and child focused youth group in the UK. We want it to become a “must do” for young people of all ages as we help parents to fight the rural danger factors of boredom and isolation.

Our values are simple:

  • Young people first…they are at the heart of everything we do

  • Everyone counts…we are inclusive and mutually respectful

  • We listen…it’s bottom up, not top down…an inverse pyramid

  • Inspirational leadership…we have the courage to innovate

Charity Objectives

The objects of the charity are to advance in life and relieve the needs of young people up to age of 18 through:

a) The provision of recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life;

b) Providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.

Diversity & inclusion

The Renegades is for everyone. Literally everyone.

The Renegades Youth Club passionately believes in equal opportunity for all irrespective of age, gender, cultural background, ethnic origin, religious or political beliefs, sexual orientation or disabilities.  We recognise that inequalities damage and disadvantage those directly affected as well as those who condone, and enable inequalities to proceed unchecked.

Equality of opportunity will be achieved through:

  • promoting respect for other people, their cultures and religion

  • ensuring that young people and adults are able to meet together in a positive and accepting environment where they are safe from harm, abuse, harassment and intimidation

  • young people and adults recognising and challenging prejudice and discrimination

  • ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to be considered as a volunteer leader

  • all leaders will have equal access to training opportunities

  • all young people will have equal access to club activities and training opportunities

Any issues of inequality should be reported to the Club Leader and the Chair of the Board of Trustees, who will enable the parties involved to supply their version of events before considering further action.

The Club Leader will respond quickly and impartially to such issues after consulting with the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

We do as many activities as we can to promote diversity and inclusivity - from celebrating Chinese New Year and Diwali to cookery around the world and games involving different languages.
